Instructions for assembling ENTEX multi-springs

We recommend the use of safety glasses and protective gloves whilst building and fitting these assemblies (omitted from photo’s for clarity).

Each assembly will consist of a Bracket Set (comprising one RH hook and two nuts, and one LH hook and one nut), and three, four, or five springs. Springs can be ‘Heavy’ (colour coded Orange) or ‘Light’ (not colour coded), or a combination of the two types. (When mixing springs, refer to our spring rate chart for details of where to position each spring.) LH hooks and nuts are colour coded Yellow. (RH not colour coded)

Step 1: Take the RH hook, and thread on one of the RH nuts , as far as it will go, for use later, as a lock nut.

Step 2: Holding the other RH nut on the inside of the bracket, screw in the RH hook to engage the nut. Screw in the hook until it comes approximately flush with the face of the nut. Use the edge of the tab to prevent the nut from rotating. Do the same with the LH hook. (Note that the LH hook is not fitted with a lock nut.)

Step 3: Insert one end of a spring into a cut-out in one of the brackets. (Tip: Installing the heavy springs first will make fitting of the final spring easier, if there are mixed springs in your assembly.) Align the widest gap in the spring coils with the curved edge of the spring bracket.

Step 4: Push the gap in the spring coils onto the curved tab.

Step 5: Twist the spring through 90º to complete the installation. It may be necessary to manipulate the position of the spring relative to the locating tabs, in order to get it to clip over. Use your thumb on the section of coils inside the bracket to help force it over the tab.

Repeat the procedure to attach the other end of the spring to the other bracket assembly, making sure the bracket faces in the same direction.

Step 6: Repeat the fitting procedure (steps 3 to 5) for the second spring. When attaching to the second bracket, it helps to stand on the hook at the other end, so that you can bend the original spring whilst you fit the second.

Step 7: Repeat the spring fitting procedure (steps 3 to 5) for each additional spring. It is necessary to bend the springs already fitted whilst installing each additional spring. Again, standing on the hook will help.

The assembly is now complete. Under normal circumstances, you will be fitting one complete assembly to each side of the door.

Check the length over the hooks against the length between the anchor points. If necessary, screw in the hooks to a length which just allows you to install the spring assembly. Make sure the exposed length of the hooks is equal.

It is recommended that you install the spring with the RH (not colour coded) hook at the top. Engage the hooks with the door anchor points, top and bottom. Rotate the assembly (anti-clockwise when viewed from above) to pre-tension the springs. Do the same to the assembly on the other side of the door, making sure you apply equal preload each side. When you are happy with the door balance, tighten down the locknut on top of each assembly to prevent it from rotating.
